Abstract

The overarching goal of this research was to assess the impact of adding Caryocar brasiliense fruit peel, known as pequi, to Eucalyptus spp. particleboard using polyvinyl acetate (PVA) adhesive reinforced with lignin and paraffin. This aimed to enhance the strength and hygroscopicity of the panels, focusing on reusing waste generated during pequi harvesting. Panels comprised 50% pequi peel, 50% Eucalyptus spp. wood particles, and 300g PVA adhesive. Three treatments were tested: without additives, with lignin, and with paraffin. Tests for physical and mechanical properties encompassed density, swelling, absorption, mechanical resistance, and sound insulation. Results highlighted lignin as the most effective additive, showcasing considerable potential in manufacturing particleboards with pequi peel.
