Abstract

This study aimed to discuss the repercussions of the population aging process in the Microregion Santa Rosa - RS, from the perspective of municipal health managers. The literature points to the growth of the elderly population in several regions of the world, in Brazil, the state of Rio Grande do Sul stands out in the process of population aging, and some regions of the state are more advanced in this process, so the field of health also needs to be prepared to meet the demands of this population. This qualitative content analysis study sought to collect data through a semi-structured interview. In the analysis of the data, three categories of analysis emerged: The perspective of aging by municipal managers, the health of the elderly and their heterogeneities and the health services offered. It should be noted that the study pointed out that municipal managers are aware that the population of their municipalities is aging. In addition, actions aimed at promoting the health of the elderly population are associated with the presence of a multidisciplinary health team and adherence to federal programs. The need to expand health promotion for the elderly and strengthen spaces for social participation of this population is evident.
