COMORBIDITIES AND THE RELATIONSHIP WITH MORTALITY BY COVID-19 IN THE STATE OF PARAÍBA

Abstract

The present study sought analyze the relationship between comorbidities and mortality due to Covid-19 in the state of Paraiba. Epidemiological, descriptive and retrospective study with quantitative approach of the data, from secondary data available in the Information Center of the State Department of Health of Paraiba, with information between April 2020 and October 2021. The following variables were analyzed: gender, age group, race/color, Covid-19 infection and deaths followed by Covid-19 infection, with conditions aggravated by the presence of comorbidities. Santa Rita is the municipality of Paraiba with the highest lethality rate by Covid-19 (3.5), followed by Bayeux (2.9) and João Pessoa (2.7). On the other hand, Riachão do Bacamarte is the only municipality that has not yet recorded death due to Covid-19. The most lethal comorbidities for patients with Covid-19 were hypertension (21.83%), heart disease (21.46%) and diabetes mellitus (20.64%). Thus, the municipality with the highest lethality rate is Santa Rita, where the male public has a higher prevalence about severe cases and deaths from the disease. In addition, the main comorbidity related to complications of Covid-19 is hypertension.
