Abstract

Precipitation stands out as the main meteorological variable in the hydrological cycle, characterizing the dynamics of terrestrial ecosystems and having a singular influence on actions and socioeconomic aspects. Within this context, the objective of this study is to investigate the occurrence of possible annual trends of the days of beginning, end, duration and accumulated precipitation, based on statistical analysis, in the rainy season of Palmas - TO, for the period from 1995 to 2021. Trend analysis was obtained through four statistical tests, one parametric (Linear Regression) and three non-parametric (Mann-Kendall test, Sen's method and Pettitt test). The results indicated that the rainy season in Palmas-TO is shortening (-1 day/year) - starting later (1.1 days/year) and ending earlier (-0.3 days/year), showing a decrease in accumulated precipitation (-14.5 mm/year). The annual trends found in this study show changes in the behavior of the rainy season in Palmas-TO, which is under the control of the Cerrado biome – considered the cradle of waters in Brazil.
