Abstract

The article seeks to present the results of prospective research on works and projects by the architect Sergio Wladimir Bernardes (Rio de Janeiro/RJ, 1919-2002), his office Sergio Bernardes Associados and the Laboratório de Investigações Conceituais (Laboratory of Conceptual Investigations), to Amazon. The investigation on this topic began in 2015 and has been providing data on the existence of this architectural collection relevant to the region, on such an important modernist architect of the so-called Escola Carioca, whose objective is to understand the historical relations of modernity, based on his work and the context in which it is inserted, that is, the decades from 1960 to 1980. We start from the review of sources and data collected in the field and from the available bibliography on the subject, plus information from weeklies and daily newspapers, of great relevance, as well as information from other documentary bases. These data, which are part of ongoing research, point to the existence of important contributions by Sergio Bernardes to the Amazon, both as an architectural culture and in its design insertion in dialogue with the developmental policies of the period.
