Abstract

Enteroparasitosis are diseases caused by intestinal parasites, which are endemic to underdeveloped or developing countries, being represented as one of the main public health problems. Brazil is a country that faces this problem, as it has a large deficit in infrastructure, basic sanitation and inefficient health education, which favors the proliferation of these diseases. Knowing them and their nosology is essential for efficient prevention. Thus, this study aimed to survey the knowledge of the population of Aparecida de Goiânia - Goiás about these pathologies, their forms of transmission, symptoms, diagnosis and prophylaxis, to measure the capacity of this population to protect themselves from these diseases through basic preventive measures. Therefore, a structured questionnaire was applied to a sample of the population and it was found that 65% of respondents did not know about intestinal parasites, 46% of them were unaware of the routes of transmission, 43% of participants did not know what the prophylaxis are, and 89 % of respondents stated that they had never received information from the city's health authorities about intestinal parasites. It was concluded that it is necessary to plan actions aimed at offering information to the population of this region and its characteristics, as people will be able to prevent themselves more effectively in relation to these pathologies.
