The purpose of this study is to map plinthic soils and Neossol in the state of Tocantins, highlighting their agricultural potential and limitations. The state of Tocantins belongs to the MATOPIBA region (Maranhão, Tocantins, Piauí and Bahia), and this region has stood out in agriculture on the national scene and grain productivity, especially soybeans and corn. However, few scientific studies describe plinthic soils and Neossol in Tocantins. In this sense, the development of the study occurred in three stages: the first stage corresponds to the use of geoprocessing as a tool to identify the two types of soils and their land uses and occupations; the second stage records the bibliographic research on the potential of the two soils and their limitations, also portraying the types of soil management and conservation; the third stage correlates the data obtained and scientific bibliographic discussions. Plinthosols occupy 98,209.6 km² of the State of Tocantins, representing approximately 35.3%, and neosols correspond to 69,898.0 km², accounting for around 25.1%. Adding the two soils together, the percentage is 64.4%. It is observed that plinthosols in the Tocantins have a predominance in the plains of the Araguaia River (Araguaia River basin), and neossol are mainly located in the east of the State, within the Tocantins River basin.
