Como parte do processo de submissão, os autores são obrigados a verificar a conformidade da submissão em relação a todos os itens listados a seguir. As submissões que não estiverem de acordo com as normas serão devolvidas aos autores.
  • A contribuição é original e inédita, e não está sendo avaliada para publicação por outra revista; caso contrário, deve-se justificar em "Comentários ao Editor".
  • Os arquivos para submissão estão em formato Microsoft Word, OpenOffice ou RTF (desde que não ultrapassem 2MB)
  • URLs para as referências foram informadas quando necessário.
  • O texto está em espaço simples; usa uma fonte de 12-pontos; emprega itálico em vez de sublinhado (exceto em endereços URL); as figuras e tabelas estão inseridas no texto, não no final do documento, como anexos.
  • O texto segue os padrões de estilo e requisitos bibliográficos descritos em Diretrizes para Autores, na seção Sobre a Revista.
  • A identificação de autoria do trabalho foi removida do arquivo e da opção Propriedades no Word, garantindo desta forma o critério de sigilo da revista, caso submetido para avaliação por pares (ex.: artigos), conforme instruções disponíveis em Assegurando a Avaliação Cega por Pares.

Journal of Biotechnology and Biodiversity - JBB is an international journal that publishes original articles of research, short notes and review articles in the following areas: Agricultural Sciences, Biotechnology, Health Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Biological and Applied Sciences, Food/Feed Science and Technology, Biodiversity and Chemistry. It publishes 4 issues per year.

 

All manuscripts must be in English. Writing should be concise and correct. English or American spelling is accepted if used consistently throughout the manuscript. 


Its title abbreviation is J. Biotec. Biodivers. which must be used in references. There are no fees to publish in JBB.

The Journal of Biotechnology and Biodiversity - JBB is indexed in the following International Information Sources: Agrindex of AGRIS/FAO database, CAB Abstracts, Ulrich´s International Periodicals Directory, Sumários. org, Latindex, Agrobase, Redalyc and DOAJ (Directory of Open Access Journals).

GENERAL INFORMATION

 The Journal of Biotechnology and Biodiversity - JBB publishes original articles of research, short notes and review articles in the following areas: Agriculture, Agribusiness and Biotechnology; Biodiversity; Human and Animal Health; Biological and Applied Sciences; Food/Feed Science and Technology.

The submission of a manuscript to the Journal of Biotechnology and Biodiversity implies that:

  • The manuscript is submitted only in English;
  • We suggest the manuscript to be reviewed by someone whose first language is English and that, preferably, be a scientist in the area;
  • The manuscript hasn't been partial or entirely published; not to be in selection process for publishing in another journal and/or another language;
  • The submission must have been approved  for all the co-authors and whenever necessary, by the authorities of the institution where the work was developed;
  • The veracity of the information and of the bibliographic citations is of exclusive responsibility of the authors;
  • The journal does not take responsibility and/or takes part in eventual lawsuits related to the published articles.

The submitted manuscripts are pre-evaluated in its content referring to scientific relevance and/or technological and originality. Also referring to its form, observing the conformity to the norms, grammatical quality and English language. Manuscripts accepted in this stage will be forwarded for review with specialists, and sent for judgment for at least two referees.

When submitting a manuscript, watch:

  • The names of the authors must appear only in the register;
  • Indicate three specialists of the same area of the manuscript that may eventually contribute to the selection process.

 Author for correspondence:

Shall be considered author for correspondence the user who effectuate the registering and dispatch of the manuscript in the system. This will be the contact in all the stages of publication process, also pos-publication.

Ensure that the email address and full local address. Contact details must be kept updated by the corresponding author.

Authorship:

Any changes regarding to inclusion, exclusion or reorganization of names of authors in the manuscript must be formally request during the process of evaluation. The document might be forwarded by mail or e-mail, dated and signed by all the authors, still including the confirmation of inclusion or exclusion, containing:

  • Article title;
  • Reason for change;
  • Names of the authors organized.

ORGANIZATION OF THE MANUSCRIPT

The manuscript must be organized according to the following categories: Title, Abstract, Key words, Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results and Discussion, Acknowledgments, References.

Title
Must be precise, clearly reflecting the content of the manuscript.

Abstract

Must be prepared as concise as possible, describing the goal and the results of the study.

Key-words

Must be presented terms or subjects which represent the content of the manuscript which will be used in the index of the article.

Introduction

Must present the purpose of the study, clearly presenting the explanations and objectives of the article, offering information which allows the reader to properly evaluate the presented results, specifying what new progress was obtained from research. The introduction must not contain data or conclusions from the referred manuscript.

Materials and Methods

Must offer, in a clear and concise way, enough information that allow other researches to copy the study. Standardized techniques don't need to be described in details.

Results and Discussion

Can be presented separately or in a combined way.

Results

Must offer a concise description of the results obtained in the necessary experiments to sustain the conclusions of the research. The section can be divided in sub-sections, each of them with a subtitle. Don't repeat in the text all the data obtained in tables and illustrations, using them only when it's necessary.

Discussion

Should be limited to the content of the new information, relating them to the pre-existing knowledge. Only the indispensable citations must be included.

Conclusions

The main conclusions must be presented concise and clearly.

Acknowledgments

Must be brief, used to thank/quote people, scholarships, projects and support received from organisms of promotion. The names of the financing organizations must be fully written. This section is optional.

References

Only the citations included in the text must be presented, being referenced and organized in alphabetic order, considering the last name of the first author.

Non-published results must not be included in the references list.  

PREPARATION OF THE MANUSCRIPT

The manuscript must be prepared in one column with 12 pages in most for original and review manuscripts; 2 to 4 pages for short notes (including tables, graphics, figures, images and references), in MS-Word (.doc) format, simple line spacing, paper size A-4 (210x297cm), with margins (2,5cm left, right 2,0cm, top and bottom 3,0cm).

The entire article must be written in Times New Roman font.

*Save the file in doc. Format. Do not send docx files.

**The journal is only published in gray scale.

Title (Font 18 and Bold)

With initials capitalized up to 250 characters.

Running title: with up to 40 characters (letters and spaces).

Authors and institutional affiliation

There must not be information which identify authorship, institutional address or e-mail, because these information are registered at the moment of the submission of the manuscript.

Abstract (Font 12 and bold)

Text - Font 10, italicized with up to 200 words (100 words for short notes). The Font style must be normal for scientific names, being highlighted in the text.

Key-words (Font 10 and bold)

Font 10, separated by a comma.

There must be at least 3(three) and up to 6(six) terms.

INTRODUCTION (Font 12, bold, and caps lock)Text - Font 11, 1 column, simple space and no retreat in the paragraphs.

MATERIAL AND METHODS (Font 12, bold and caps lock) Text - Font 11, one column, simple space and no retreat in the paragraphs.

For Titles and Subtitles, use the following levels:

  • First level - Other sections can be created: uppercase, font 12, bold.
  • Second level: only the first letter of each word is uppercase, font 11, bold.
  • Third level: only the first letter of each word is uppercase, font 11, italicized.

RESULTS AND DISCUSSION (Font 11, bold, and caps lock)

Text - Font 11, 1 column, simple space and no retreat in the paragraphs.

CONCLUSIONS (Font 12, bold and caps lock)

Text - Font 11.

ACKNOWLEDGMENTS (Font 12, bold and caps lock)

Text - Font 11, simple space and no retreat in the paragraphs.

REFERENCES (Font 12, bold and caps lock)

Text - Font 10, with special retreat of 0,3cm.

The titles of the journals should not be abbreviated. 

For citation, use the author's last name and the date:

An author:

Bacila (1946) or (Bacila 1946).

Two authors:

(Maack and Bodziak 1946) or Maack and Bodziak (1946).

Three or more authors:

Last name of the first author followed by et al.

Bacila et al. (1946) or (Bacila et al. 1946).

Obs: more than one reference from the same author (s) in the same year, must be identified by the letters "a", "b", "c", etc, put after the year of publication. (Bacila et al. 1910a) e (Bacila et al. 1910b) e. (Bacila et al. 1910c).

UNITS AND ABBREVIATIONS

The "SI" system must be used. In the case of other units, these must be added in parentheses. Only the standard abbreviations for the units must be used. Dots must not be included in the abbreviations, also must be used % and / instead of "per cent" and "per".

 TABLES

Must be numbered consecutively in Arabic digits and inserted in proper place in the text. A brief and descriptive title must be included above each table and the explanations put below as a subtitle.

Formatting of Tables:

  • Font Times New Roman 11, title and content.
  • Font Times New Roman 10, footnotes.
  • Width 16,5 cm.
  • Vertical and Diagonal lines must not be used in tables.
  • The tables must be elaborated and edited in cells, using the resources of the text editor.

Obs: Tables in figure format (jpg, tif or png) are not accepted. or that contain lines drawn.

FIGURES

Must be numbered consecutively in Arabic digits and cited in the text in numerical order.

  • Parts of figures must be indicated by uppercase (A, B, C, etc).
  • The figures must be presented in gray scale, clear and with high contrast.

Letters and numbers must have readable size after reduction or print, use the following fonts: Arial or Times New Roman.

The image must be adjusted to the width (16,5 cm) of the page, and must be smaller than the page to allow the inclusion of the subtitle.

 

The illustrations must be cited in the text with the word "Figure", without being abbreviated when it is part of a sentence. When it appears in parentheses, it must be abbreviated "(Fig.)".

Page charges: There will be no page charges.

Proofs: After the layout, the manuscript in converted to pdf ( proof sheet) and forwarded to the authors for approval. The Proofs must return to the Editorial Production in the stipulated date. Other changes in the original manuscript won't be accepted in this stage.

Nevertheless, for use in articles of the Journal of Biotechnology and Biodiversity-JBB some exceptions to these norms are mandatory. These exceptions are: Article writing in English, besides of the title, abstract and key-words wrote in English, must has also a title, abstract and Key-words wrote in Portuguese (The JBB team made translation for Portuguese for foreigner authors), and when the article is writing in Portuguese, besides of the title, abstract and key-words wrote in Portuguese, must has also a title, abstract and Key-words wrote in English.

Foreigner authors can send its articles without a title, abstract and key-words wrote in Portuguese.
