About the Journal

Perspectivas

Journal of the Postgraduate Program in Philosophy of Federal University of Tocantins

Focus and Scope

Perspectivas is an electronic journal specialized in the dissemination of scientific works in the field of Philosophy and/or Philosophical works in related areas. Its objective is to disseminate unpublished works in Portuguese, English, Italian, French and Spanish that contribute to the philosophical debate, be they articles, essays, reviews, interviews, translations and experience reports. Texts can be sent according to the format of their nature, considering the journal’s norms for rigorous peer review, acceptance, indexing and publication. Perspectivas receives texts from researchers, postgraduate students in Philosophy and education professionals.

Peer Review Process

A) Role of editors: from the moment the text is received, the Technical Committee of the Editorial Team of Perspectivas acknowledges the receipt. All papers submitted to Perspectivas are sent for peer review using the blind-review method.

B) The entire evaluation process will be mediated by one or more editors of Perspectivas.

C) Blind peer review: the identification of authorship of the work must be removed from the file by accessing “Properties” in Word Editor for Windows, thus guaranteeing the journal’s confidentiality criteria if submitted for peer review, according to the instructions available in Ensuring the Blind Peer Review.

D) Papers submitted to Perspectivas will be evaluated by at least two external referees, selected by specialty and/or affinity in relation to thematic content. In case of opposite positions in the evaluation, the text will be sent to a third referee. The referees must follow the deadline indicated by the editors to evaluate the work and will be reminded about it during this process. A text to be published will necessarily need to receive two favorable opinions.

E) Evaluation: the referee must rigorously consider the evaluation criteria indicated by the journal and mark the appropriate alternative with an (X). Here is an example: (X) Very good; ( ) Good ( ) Insufficient. Any marked alternative must be justified at the end of the evaluation.

F) The technical evaluation: after rigorous evaluation, each referee must issue a technical evaluation. An example follows: (X) in favor of publication; ( ) refuses the publication; ( ) conditional acceptance for publication.

G) Considerations of the referee: all the considerations of the referee must be justified in the items provided at the end of the evaluation. In case of conditional acceptance for publication, the referee must make the necessary notes so that the author rectifies the text in the items evaluated as deficient. Occasionally, minor modifications to the text may be made by the Editorial Team Technical Committee or by the Journal’s Editorial Board, upon technical information from the referees. However, in case of substantial changes to the text, the author will have to redo it.

H) Response from the Editorial Team Technical Committee: after receiving the forms with the referees’ considerations, the editors will send them to the author, whether the text is approved or not. The forms will be sent to the author without the identification of the referees.

I) Guidance for the author: in case of conditional acceptance for publication, the author will receive a new deadline to deliver the text and, as soon as the editors receive it again, it will be sent back to the referees for (re)evaluation of the contents and textual modifications.

J) Publication: publications are biannual, so the journal cannot guarantee immediate publication of all submitted works, although the journal will issue a referee to the author in case of acceptance. The journal has a database in which the works are available for publication. As soon as the work is published, the author will be notified.

K) The referees will receive an evaluation certificate.
