Abstract

This paper discusses the issue of migratory flows in the Eastern Amazon region, focusing on the case of the State of Tocantins and specifically the municipality of Araguaína-TO. Bringing to the discussion the economic and social elements that influenced and still influence the region. The impacts that such migratory flows induced by the Brazilian State caused in the region and how the same State had different strategies for each historical moment in the region. Having as its center the urban problem of a medium-sized city, characterized as a regional hub, which in its history had a large migratory flow and there were no adequate policies for planning and managing these impacts. What causes, nowadays, still serious problems for the local community in the municipality of Araguaína-TO.
