Abstract

This paper, basically theoretical incuse, proposes a thought about the work carried out by inmates inside the prison centers. It initiates from the emerging of prisons as a strategy of capitalist economic regime in ascension so that the masses of countryside workers driven out of the fields at the end of the feudal period could be able to adapt themselves to the manufacturing industry. Currently, it is composed of punitive actions that are legitimized as an underlying justification to minimize levels of criminality by way of dissuasion and the preparation of the inmates for their return to society, the so-called re-socialization. The Brazilian laws in the Penal Code predicts the work as basilar activity for the re-socialization project within the prisons. However, these activities are situated in a precarious field of work conditions, devoid of legal guarantees that backup the free workers, constituting themselves as potentially inside and outside wall activities which are reality transformers. Even so, the paper takes on an important role as it enables subversion of the oppression within these institutions, allowing the incarcerated subjects not to be absorbed by the prison machine so as to be able to create borderlines for autonomy and re-signification of identity.
