Abstract

Abstract: The debate on racial issues in Brazil permeates its history. However, from the last quarter of the nineteenth century with the end of slavery, problems arose in a qualitatively different way. Several social actors tried to solve, throughout the twentieth century, fundamental issues that touched on the problem of racial integration in Brazil and the Communist Party of Brazil (PCB) was one of these actors. This article aims to discuss the contributions of two important theorists of Brazilian Marxist thought, both linked to the PCB, on racial issues: Édison Carneiro (1912-1972) and Clóvis Moura (1925-2003). With this, the intention is to compare the theoretical interventions of both authors with the contributions and decisions of the party on such issues, measuring them in their degrees of independence and originality in relation to the party line.
