This study was carried out as part of the Conclusion Work of the Degree Course in History, completed in 2020, by the University of Vale dos Sinos - Unisinos. It aimed to analyze the works of economic theorists, in order to understand the processes of expropriation of indigenous lands that took place in the middle of the 19th century in the North Coast of Rio Grande do Sul. He used as a source the bibliography pertinent to the theme, such as the works of Karl Marx, Adam Smith, as well as Brazilian historians such as Lauro Pereira da Cunha and Luisa Tombini Witmann. As a result of this research, it was possible to understand how the appropriation of the gaucho lands by colonizers and immigrants took place. Also the consequences for indigenous communities. For example, the absence of public policies that would allow land to be retaken by these groups marginalized by Brazilian history for so long.
