Abstract

The question that guides this research refers to a statement made by the historian of psychoanalysis in France, Mrs. Roudinesco, who in an interview did not hesitate to say: “In our day, Marie Bonaparte would have been an expert in the field of transsexuality ”. So, to what extent can we consider Princess Marie an expert on the subject of transsexuality?  In order to trace the possible epistemological foundations in Bonapartean work that can serve as a baton for an affirmation of this scope, it was necessary to identify biology in psychoanalysis, in addition to presenting some of its main mentors whose research was related to the biological research of his time, among them S. Freud himself, considered by many to be the soul biologist. Finally, in Bonaparte's research on women's sexuality we find the thesis of the anatomical cause of frigidity and Halban-Narjani surgery, but it is in the elaboration of the concept of passive phallus that we find the aspect of Bonpapartean psychoanalysis that brings the author's work closer to the theme of transsexuality. However, we conclude by stating that we cannot consider Bonaparte a specialist in the field of transsexuality, since it is we, readers of the 21st century, who attribute the relevance of this concept to this field of study and not a genuine intention of the author
