In view of a search for weed management methods aiming at reducing production costs and avoiding the selection and dissemination of plants resistant to herbicide mechanisms of action, we tried to evaluate the residual effect of different herbicides used in large commercial scale. in Brazilian agriculture in sorghum culture. The experiment was carried out at the Gurupi University Campus, belonging to the Federal University of Tocantins, arranged in a randomized block design with four replications, in a factorial scheme. Three herbicides were used: Diuron, Glyphosate and Paraquat to desiccate the area before planting, having a treatment that did not receive herbicide application and was maintained throughout the crop cycle with weeding 30 DAE (control). The planting was interspersed every four days, being: 0, 4, 8, 12, 16 and 20 days after application, with evaluations made 90 days after planting, at the time of harvest. The plots were formed by nine rows of three meters each, with 0.50 m row spacing. Thirty days after herbicide application, we carried out a survey of weed population and species on the plots that received the first planting. The phytotechnical data of the crop was quantified by collecting ten plants in sequence in rows 5 - 6 of the plots. The following variables were evaluated: stem diameter; dry mass of the stem with sheath; dry mass of leaves; panicle dry mass; grain mass. The results were subjected to analysis of variance by the F test and submitted to the means test by the Tukey test at 5% probability. There was a strong action of the herbicide Diuron in the population of sorghum plants and also weed plants, being very efficient. The residual effect of Paraquat and Glyphosate herbicides was low on the weed population, causing matocompetition in these treatments. Differences in phytotechnical data at times 8 and 12 within treatments days after application may have been influenced by environmental variables, as the control was also variable.
