The study of energy exchanges between a vegetated surface and atmosphere is important for identifying possible interactions between soil-plant-atmosphere, variation of climate of a region and identify effects of human activities on the environment. The objective was to estimate the energy balance by the Bowen ratio method in a pasture in the northern Pantanal during dry season. The experiment was conducted in a Brachiaria humidicola pasture at the Experimental Farm of the Universidade Federal de Mato Grosso, in Santo Antônio de Leverger -MT. The study was conducted during 5days, between 24 and 28 September 2009, during the drought period. The Bowen ratio method is based on the conservation of energy law, expressed by the equation of energy balance. This method can estimate the latent and sensible heat flux by the measures of net radiation, soil heat flux and temperature and pressure of water vapor gradients. The energy available in the system was used mostly in the form of latent heat flux (60.49%), followed by sensible heat flux (29.7%) and the heat flux from soil (0.98%).
