Abstract

In this article, I discuss the conjuncture of the resumption of the Communist Party’s influence on the trade union movement during the first half of the 1950’s in Rio de Janeiro, after the communists went underground when the party’s legality was revoked in 1947. Therefore, by the demonstrations from the political dispute undertaken in the railroad workers and the weavers’ unionism, I highlight the internal debates that took place on the paths to be taken to reverse the annulment of the party’s legality and regain its influence in the organized working class, adding, in the analysis of this process, what were the oppositions in society that fought against the strengthening of communists in the trade union movement, especially the intervention of the press.
