Abstract

In the process of agricultural modernization, irrigated coffee growing has expanded throughout the Brazilian territory, mainly in the cerrado regions, reaching the municipality of Ibiaí. This aroused interest in researching the economic processes of coffee production in the geographic space of Ibia. The objective of this work is to analyze the process of expansion of irrigated coffee growing in the municipality of Ibiaí, focusing on the economic aspects of coffee production in Ibiaí. This study was developed in three stages, in the first, it focused on the literature review to discuss the concepts and themes addressed. In the second, the focus was on the analysis of secondary data provided by government institutions. In the third, it was decided to apply a semi-structured interview to the farm representative, collecting information about coffee growing. The text addresses the process of agricultural modernization with emphasis on the expansion of coffee production in Brazil and Minas Gerais. Next, the modernization of agriculture in the north of Minas Gerais was discussed, focusing on economic, social and environmental aspects of coffee growing in the municipality of Ibiaí. Irrigated coffee growing is recent in the geographical space of Ibiaí, representing the process of modernization of agriculture, with the arrival of the great capital in the municipality of Ibiaí.

She is currently a Professor at the State Department of Education - MG. Has experience in the field of Geography.

PhD in Geography from the Federal University of Uberlândia - UFU. Master in Social Development from the State University of Montes Claros - UNIMONTES. Graduated in Geography from the State University of Montes Claros - UNIMONTES. Professor at the Department of Geosciences and Professor at the Postgraduate Program in Geography - PPGEO. I have experience in research and teaching in the field of Geography and the like, with an emphasis on Economic Geography, Transport Geography, International Trade Geography, Industry Geography, Energy Geography, Geopolitics and Economic History. Mainly on the following topics: economic infrastructure, logistics, transport logistics, international trade: exports and imports of goods, industrial and agro-industrial activities. He is Editor-in-Chief of the Cerrados Magazine (UNIMONTES), coordinator of the Economic Geography Laboratory (Unimontes) and member of the Latin American Space and Economy Network (RELAEE). In the last five years, I participated in research, published articles in journals, books and scientific events in the field of Geography and related areas.
